New Stained Glass Classes, Walk-Ins & More Glass
It's been a while since my last blog post, but this summer feels like the perfect time to share an update. We're about to start our fourth summer at Colorado Glass Works, and I can hardly believe it.
From the moment I opened the doors on August 2nd, 2022, I have never quite been able to anticipate the studio's direction, in the best possible way. When I first opened Colorado Glass Works, I imagined it as a space to sell my glass artwork and teach stained glass classes here in Boulder. At the time, a local studio in Grand Junction (shoutout to Working Artist Gallery) encouraged me to sell glass and supplies. That suggestion completely changed the studio's trajectory let me tell you.
Years later, I am so proud that Colorado Glass Works has grown into a large source of art glass, especially fun, fancy glass, for the stained glass community. As we get ready to celebrate another incredible year in business, I have so many fun glass things to share with you.
New Stained Glass Classes + More Accessible Open Studio Time
The first big update is that we have added many new classes this summer.
So many students have learned in our space and want to keep learning, so we overhauled our open studio format and added some awesome brand-new classes. We also lowered the cost of open studio to $20 (that's just $10 per hour) and it will now be offered weekly instead of monthly. Our goal is to be an even bigger support to our community. We want our Boulder studio to feel accessible, affordable, and welcoming for anyone who wants to continue building their stained glass skills. In addition to lowering costs, we will also add fun lessons and treats to make open studio even more engaging.
When it comes to our class offerings, we have expanded both our beginner and advanced options. We are adding more detailed patterns, delving deeper into the specific skills students have requested, and offering classes on topics such as working with rondels and getting started with stained-glass repairs. We also added new beginner and experience-based classes with fun seasonal and highly requested designs, including a Halloween gothic arch, monsteras, feathers, and more themed take-and-makes.
Lastly, we added walk-in classes, so you can now come into our studio right off the Pearl Street Mall at the drop of a hat, starting at only $39! We have several pre-cut glass pattern options available. You'll receive some light guidance on foiling and soldering, and you will be off to the races making your own stained-glass creation in our space. These projects are great for visitors on a weekend trip to Boulder or for partners looking for something romantic and unique to do together.
Come test out a new class, learn a new skill, or build on the stained glass knowledge you already have from previously taking a class with us!
More Glass, More Tools, and So Much to Explore
As the shop has grown, we have also expanded our glass and tool offerings. If you have not visited the studio in a minute, or if you have never been in, we now have hundreds of sheets of stained glass for sale, plus tools displayed much more clearly thanks to our new custom wood shelving system installed at the end of last year (ask us to turn on our logo lights at the checkout counter too!)
We also recently expanded our sheet glass selection, adding over 1,000 new sheets in the last month alone. New art glass is always hitting our shelves and going online every week, so keep an eye on the shop and website if you are on the hunt for something special or rare to find!
